Marriage application appointments are accepted Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm daily.
Fee / Waiting PeriodThe fee for a certificate of marriage is $100 (cash or check, no card accepted). A five-day waiting period is required by law. The day of application is not included in the waiting period. If the fifth day lands on a weekend or holiday, the license will be issued on the next business day. The waiting period may be waived at the discretion of the county clerk. If a waiver is approved, applicants must pay an additional $25 to cover the increased processing costs. For persons in the military, the $25 fee may be waived. The license is valid for 30 days after the date of issuance and the marriage must be performed within that period.
Criteria and Documentation
Officiant / Ceremony / Filing of License
Any ordained clergyman of any religious denomination or society, any judge of a court of record, or a family court commissioner may perform the ceremony. The two parties themselves, by such mutual declarations in accordance with the customs, rules, and regulations of any religious society, denomination, or sect to which either of the parties belong, may also perform the ceremony. An officiating person must be at least 18 years of age.
Two competent witnesses 18 years of age or older are required to be present at the ceremony. After the ceremony has taken place, the officiant must file the license at the Register of Deeds Office at 1313 Belknap Street, Room 108, Superior, within three days of the ceremony.
