Challenge Center began about 40 years ago in response to Community Needs, when parents of children and adults with developmental disabilities asked Catholic Charities to develop day programs. The programs and services the Challenge Center reflect the individualized care provided to over 130 program participants by our 170 dedicated staff and 160 volunteers. Creative work environments include Bay Produce, Marathon Industries that were developed to provide meaningful employment for individuals with disabilities. The Day Services programs also provide a continuum of care, from Sensory Stimulation through Life Skills to our Seniors programs. In addition to all the work Challenge Center has done to become certified in the Count Me Green program. They have also completed the Sustainable Twin Ports Early Adopters program in 2009. One of their big sustainable projects was to install geo-thermal heating that provides most of the heating for their buildings.
