Curbside Collection: Preparation Guide
Convenience.  Simply put, it's the easiest way to recycle.  Now you do not have to sort your paper, glass, plastic, or cans.  With single sort, all of your recyclable materials go into one cart on wheels.

Put Your Co-Mingled Recyclables in Your Green and Yellow Cart
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Metal cans
  • Mixed plastics:  plastic bottles, containers, lids, and tubs (1-7)
  • Paper:  mail, office and school papers, magazines and catalogs, newspapers and inserts, shredded paper in a closed paper bag
  • Phone books
  • Boxes:  cardboard boxes, cereal, cracker, pasta, cake mix, shoe, gift, electronic
  • Pop and beer cartons

How to Prepare Your Recyclables
  • Remove caps and lids
  • No need to remove labels
  • Rinse jars, cans, bottles
  • No plastic bags or foam cups
  • If needed, flatten cardboard to fit in cart
  • Extra cardboard can be cut and tied into 1x3 foot bundles and placed next to your cart

Cart Placement
  • Place your cart out the night before or by 6:00 am the day of collection
  • Place the cart away from mailboxes, trees, and telephone poles
  • Place cart opening toward the road or street
  • Lid should be closed, if possible
  • Remove any bungee straps or ropes
  • Do not place cart on highway where it could impede traffic or create an accident

Do NOT Recycle These Items at Your Drop-Off Center or Curbside
  • Window glass
  • Styrofoam
  • Light bulbs
  • Ceramics
  • Dishes or drinking glasses
  • Scrap Metal
  • Hangers
  • Paper plates or towels
  • Dirty pizza boxes
  • Plastic bags or film
  • Oil or anti-freeze containers
  • Wood
  • Ovenware
  • Mirrors
  • Tupperware

Practice SMART Shopping
(Saving Money And Reducing Trash)
  • Avoid products with excessive packaging
  • Buy in large sizes when possible
  • Avoid individual serving sized packaging
  • Buy concentrates
  • Bring your own reusable grocery bag
