DISPOSAL KEY

     Bring to hazardous waste collection
in June (City of Superior residents
      may also use WLSSD).

    Dispose of in trash can.

Pour down drain if connected to a
       sanitary sewer.

We are surrounded with untested chemicals in products that pose significant threats to public health.  Less than 10% of all chemicals in household products have been scientifically tested by the EPA.  With the increase of these household products, there has been a significant shift to improper use, disposal, and storage.  Many of these hazardous materials end up in landfills, sewage treatment facilities, septic tanks, and worst of all -- our lakes and rivers.

Consider using non-toxic alternatives to your household cleaners:
»Floors and Toilets:  Use 3 tablespoons each of borax and liquid soap to 2 quarts of water.  Baking soda and a mild detergent can replace powder cleansers.
»Sinks and Countertops:  Use vinegar mixed with water and salt.
»Windows:  Use newspaper dipped in vinegar to scrub windows.  A mix of 1 quart water, a few drops of liquid soap, and two tablespoons ammonia also work well.
»Disinfectant:  Mix 1/2 cup each of soap, borax, and isopropyl alcohol.
»Perspiration Stains:  Weak water solutions of white vinegar, lemon juice, or aspirin can be used as a pre-soak to remove stains or soak clothes in a solution of cornmeal and water.
