Consider composting your leaves and lawn clippings. Compost is a natural soil enhancer. Call the Recycling or Extension Office for information to help you get started. |
Yard Waste? Brush
3" in diameter or less is accepted from April 15-October 31 at the
Brule, Solon Springs, and Gordon/Wascott transfer stations. It is
also accepted at the Lake Nebagamon Village Garage. Grass and leaves
are accepted at the Superior Landfill, for a fee. Brush is accepted
at the Superior Landfill for a fee of $5.00 per pickup load.
Latex Paint? Latex paint can be landfilled
once it is dry. Open cans of paint and let them dry out or stir in
oil absorbent/kitty litter to speed the drying time. Once dry,
throw in the garbage.
Latex paint is NOT accepted at hazardous waste collections. |

Construction/Demolition Debris? Items from construction or demolition (sheetrock, lumber, windows, siding, cement, bricks, etc.) cannot go to the Superior Landfill. These items must go to a construction landfill such as Lakehead Blacktop. |
Fluorescent and HID Bulbs? Fluorescent bulbs can be taken to the East End Hardware, Bingham Hardware, or Poplar Hardware stores. Fluorescent bulbs, HID bulbs, and ballasts can be brought to the June hazardous waste collections. City of Superior residents may also bring bulbs to WLSSD site in Duluth. Small businesses may use the hazardous waste collections in June for a small fee, but cannot use WLSSD. | Waste
Oil? Rural
residents may bring used motor oil to the Solon Springs or
Gordon/Wascott Transfer Station. Waste oil and filters can also be
taken to the Superior Moccasin Mike Landfill. These collections
are free. Waste oil needs to be free of anti-freeze
contaminants. Motor oil will NOT be accepted at hazardous
collection sites.

Hypodermic
Needles, Sharps? ![]() Hypodermic needles cannot be disposed of in garbage or recycling containers. Douglas County and SMDC-Superior have teamed up to provide free sharps disposal for Douglas County residents. Go to the Pharmacy at SMDC- Superior, 3500 Tower Avenue to receive a free bio-hazard container for your needles. You will be asked to fill out a short registration that you will update yourself each time you come in. When your container is full, you return it to the Pharmacy for disposal and to receive a new container. Televisions?

Rechargeable
Batteries? Drop offs for rechargeable batteries have been established at the following sites: Superior Wastewater Treatment Plant, 51 East First Street Superior City Clerk's Office, Government Center Building County Treasurer's Office, 1313 Belknap Street (Courthouse) Rechargeable batteries may be brought to the household hazardous waste collections held in June. City of Superior residents may use WLSSD's HHW site. Akaline, non-rechargeable, batteries may be put in the garbage. |
