YOUTH AND FAMILY SERVICES supports
children and families identifying, preventing, and resolving conditions
which may contribute toward delinquency, maltreatment, truancy, and
uncontrollability. This support is provided under two general
categories: Juvenile Justice Services and Child Protection Ongoing
Services.
PROGRAMS AND SERVICES PROVIDED
Juvenile Justice: Juvenile Custody Intake - Social
Workers are available 24 hours a day to determine if legal grounds exist
to hold a child in custody upon the child being taken into custody by
either Law Enforcement or other Child Welfare Social Workers.
Juvenile Court Intake - A
Juvenile Court Intake Social Worker reviews allegations a child is either
delinquent or in need of protection or services due to uncontrollability
or child maltreatment making recommendations to the District Attorney's
office how the matter should be handled by the legal system. This
review may include a conference with the family.
Juvenile Court Case Management
- Social Workers perform family assessments making recommendations
to the Court for conditions with a child and family which promote
community protection, child accountability, and improve child and family
competency. Upon completion of the family assessment, the Social
Worker will provide case planning and supervision services.
Child Protection Ongoing
Services: Child Protection Case Management - Social
Workers perform family assessments making recommendations to the Court for
conditions with families which promote child safety, child well being, and
permanency with the child's living situation. Upon completion of the
family assessment, the Social Worker will provide case planning, case
evaluation, and safety services.
Other Services: The
Youth and Family Services Unit collaborates with community providers to
enhance the quality of services provided with the people of Douglas
County. This includes educating the community on issues related to
delinquency and maltreatment. This education is also provided to the
state and our government representatives supporting policy and legislation
which promotes a more effective and efficient child welfare system.
